What is cold brew (Cold Brew Method)?

Cold Brew, whose name we have started to hear more and more with the third generation coffee trend, appears as a different method than brewing coffee with the hot water we are used to. Cold brew coffee is brewed with cold water. Cold brew originated in the 1600s when Dutch merchants in Japan used this method to brew coffee. The cold brew method, which emerged many years ago, has been in our lives from the past to the present. This method, which is popular again with the philosophy of the third coffee movement, which values coffee, enables delicious cold coffees to be made.

What is the Difference Between Cold Coffee and Cold Brew?
In fact, we have been encountering iced latte (Ice Latte) derivative coffees or cold filter coffees in cafes for a long time. So how exactly is Cold Brew different from this coffee?
Cold coffee is coffee made by adding ice to any coffee. The logic of Cold Brew, on the other hand, is to combine cold water and a large amount of coffee and keep it in the refrigerator for 12-20 hours. In Cold Brew, since the coffee is brewed with cold water, there is no intense acidity like coffee brewed with hot water. For this reason, you can get a drink with a less sharp taste. If you keep coffee brewed with hot water in the refrigerator, this acidity can intensify and even cause a much more bitter taste. In addition, waiting for a long time with coffee water increases the amount of caffeine released into the water. As a result, with Cold Brew, you get a high-caffeine, cold, sugar-free but sweet coffee.
So, How is the Development Phase of Cold Brew Progress?
If we see Cold Brew in the world of coffee brewed without the use of heat, we can predict that Cold Brew may be diversified or improved in the future. One of the initiatives in this field is the brewing method called nitrogen brewing (nitro-brew), which gives coffee a creamy/foamy texture. Nitrogen brewing is done by adding nitrogen to Cold Brew with the help of specific equipment. Another example is a return to Kyoto-style brewing, which slowly brews coffee by soaking it in large ice cubes.
As a result, we can examine the diversification of the additions made to coffees brewed with cold water with different ingredients within cold-brew.

How to Prepare Cold Brew at Home?
After mixing 100 grams of filtered coffee with 500 grams of water, you can store it in an airtight jar for 12-24 hours. If you follow this method, you need to filter the coffee after grinding.
Likewise, you can put coffee and water in the French press and keep them in the refrigerator. In this method, you do not need to filter the coffee again, but you should reduce the air permeability rate as much as possible by clogging the mouth of the French press with a napkin or a piece of paper.
Put the Fiber Filters in an airtight container.
Add room temperature water to each filter, equivalent to approximately 200ml.
Leave it in the refrigerator for 12-24 hours.
